Memorial Day 2009

I took the following pictures on Saturday May 23, 2009 at the town of North Attleborough's Memorial Day parade. A small south eastern Massachusetts town with history to colonial times it celebrates memorial day as it was meant to be, as a remembrance of those served and died in service to our nation. I think the pictures speak to the spirit of remembrance when so often these holidays become an excuse for consumption and excess.

A walk in the Woods Part 1

I went for a walk along an abandoned railroad right of way, The Old Colony line here in North Attleborough. I have walked here before so I had an idea of what I would see. The rail bed has a well defined path with off shoots to the right and left towards cow pastures, marshes, streams and a small reservoir, plenty of photo ops. I shot over 400 images so I'm going to have to break up this posting over several days. I think I'm going to theme it up a bit as well....enjoy.

This hen came out about 10 feet in front of me and walked right down the path in the opposite direction. I knew she was there as I had seen her from a distance and quietly walked up to where she was; but I didn't think she would pop out so close.

note that the second and third tomato from the top have a skull in them, kinda misshapen but there as a warning not to eat moldy tomatoes. I was just fooling around with extenders and monochrome to see what came up; this is a partial result.

Unintentional

I didn't really think until I was putting out some plush bunnies yesterday about my subject selection most recently posted. I know we are all adults, but just in case I apologize for the choice of a rabbit as a subject, rest assured it was not planned; the rabbit got hit, was there, I saw it and took the pic.
Something to think about anyway.

Transitions, perhaps NSFW

The following photos show a rather sudden transition; granted they show only the end result of a rabbit run over by a car, I will leave to your imagination the rabbit racing against the car to cross the street. I took these on Sunday April 5 and by Monday morning the remains were gone. Since I don't believe a person removed the carcass my bet is scavengers helped clear the roadway. The transition continues from living to dead to sustenance and beyond.....something to think about.
